Port Coquitlam, BC – Ron McKinnon, Member of Parliament for Coquitlam-Port Coquitlam, hosted his second annual September Social on September 9th at Lions Park. It’s a family-friendly celebration for the Coquitlam-Port Coquitlam community featuring free food, face-painting and other special surprises. The afternoon included a celebration recognizing Coquitlam-Port Coquitlam Community Champions.
On the heels of Mr. McKinnon’s successful Leadership Pin Awards last summer, this year Mr. McKinnon launched Community Champions. Community Champions recognizes the dedicated community volunteers who work hard to make Coquitlam-Port Coquitlam great. Residents nominated their Community Champions – such as the dedicated parent who wakes up extra early to carpool the neighbourhood kids to school, the passionate coach who puts in countless hours to shape young athletes, and the fundraising superstar who collects donations to help the less fortunate.
Barbara Worwood – Ms. Worwood is the President of Eagle Ridge Hospital Auxiliary and puts in many hours running the thrift and gift store, encouraging volunteers, and fundraising.
Michael Thomas – Mr. Thomas is a School Trustee, and volunteers as a coach, works with Real Acts of Caring, and The Port Coquitlam Heritage and Cultural Society.
Maria Shylov – Ms. Shylov assists low income singles and families with practical information so they can make smart food choices on limited budgets.
Lawrence Schmidt – Mr. Schmidt has spent many years volunteering with Power and Sail Squadron. -2-
Aynsley Meldrum – Ms. Meldrum volunteers as a scout leader, works with the Coquitlam Relay for Life, and advocates for and promotes the Port Coquitlam Farmers Market.
Patrick McCarthy – Mr. McCarthy is a dedicated volunteer with Tri-Cities Community TV and Friends of Leigh Square.
Vidal Laud – Mr. Vidal is a local community volunteer, working to promote Canada as a global trade destination.
